Please use an editor for third installment.

Let me begin by stating when it comes to most books on Amazon I read the lower rated reviews before the 4 and 5 star as frankly I have been lulled into purchasing too many "FANTASTIC READS!!!" which simply are not. That said, I really enjoyed "Born" and "Born To Fight" was the right price to give it a go. This is a good story in the genre, but here is where it lost stars in my opinion:
- Inconsistencies with the first book. Suddenly there are iPods and iPads and video games in Emma's life up until she was 9 years old? Did this story even start when iPads were out? I don't think it did in the timeline of first book but okay... the off the grid father suddenly emerges as allowing daughter all these on the grid sorts of devices. And she started going to summer camp for months at the age of 4? Or wait, 5? In "Born" she learned her survival skills from her "dad" but in the book she learned everything at summer camp including making her own arrows and bow. At ages 4 or 5 to 9. Hmmmmmm. What camp takes a 5 year old for months at a time I wonder?
Had the author perhaps read her first book again before writing this one she might have avoided some of the character / plot inconsistencies found in the second.
- THE EDITING IS HORRID. Wait, what editing? Mentioned by others. Unless you like this sort of storytelling:
Emma found herself in kitchen alone. It reminded her of time in the cabin without "us". Well, are you going to eat or just start at it"? He said as he loomed next to Emma having accompanied her to the kitchen. Emma scowled and her stomach hurt and she needed sleep but had to kill her father.
What the? Is that dialog? Who is talking? Very annoying- would have to go back to see who was around certain characters to figure out who was saying what. Or characters would just appear in the scene. Emma says goodbye to Brian at the bunker. Brian is thrown out of the car. Will is in front seat of truck Emma in back. He pulls Emma close to him. COME ON. My 4th grader can write a more consistent story. Much of the story felt rushed- it is NOT that difficult to review your work if you are asking people to PAY and take the time to read it. The poor editing is probably the main reason I won't read the third book.
- The "love story" between Will and Emma. Just got ridiculous. They are that annoying couple that fight all the time just to make up. Emma finds stupid reasons to hate Will- Will is way to physical with Emma and she tolerates it. And then he's calling her "Babe?" Gross. Just bleah. Move on from Will and Emma- the story is much better without their angst and drama. Focus on the mission and let Will be with Emma instead of the back and forth between them. It is no longer of interest at least to this reader.
That about sums it up. I would have liked to have given this book a higher rating but I honestly think as an author, self published or not, you owe it to your characters and your audience to provide at the very least well written material. Enough said.

Good but a little confusing
By Miss Kay
I loved Born. It was a great book so I was really excited for Born to Fight. Which was good but it was also somewhat of a mess to read. Typos, a repeated paragraph, not knowing who was speaking (when both Will and Jake are in a section at times the author says "He said...." and it takes a little while to figure out who actually said it - once I Never could figure out who was speaking). The book also moved really fast in places and it was hard to keep up with exactly what was happening. We missed 6 days at one point. I understand nothing interesting happened in those 6 days but it was a big jump in time when they only had 7 days to do what they needed to do and to get back to Jake and Star. I also feel like I can't get a good hold on where they are geographically. Spokane is obviously Spokane, Washington (I assume) but I always imagined they were on the east coast instead of the west coast when reading the first novel. There's also a lot of things happening in the book, almost too much with little explanation.
All in all, I love the story but this one left me wanting more details.

Entertaining, Good Premise, but the Romantic Plot...
By catherine
As stated, the book is a fun read. The main character is a fun brain to live inside of, if a bit caustic at times, and the development of the back story further moved along the plot. I liked her spunkiness, and her complete lack of social skills. She is different from many heroines, and I appreciate the fact that she can take care of herself. For some reason, I was constantly waiting for the big "so THAT'S why she's so damn important!" but I never really got it. I understand that she's genetically altered and all that jazz, but why aren't the other GEN kids ever given any credit or importance? I'm assuming there's more. Maybe it will come in the next book, or maybe it's just something to just chalk up to "well, she's the protagonist, so she has to be important." The development of the world is solid. I wouldn't call it the best, but it's a far cry from the worst I have read.
Now, to the part that had me wanting to gouge my eyeballs out or club Emma over the head. The love triangle is absolutely horrible. Will is a borderline bipolar character who cannot seem to restrain himself from physically injuring or emotionally berating Emma during every single interaction the two characters have. When they are not passionately/insanely fighting, they rarely speak about anything of consequence, besides a small handful of personal stories. In the opposite corner of the triangle, we have Jake, who seems just too damn goofy and young to be of any real competition to Will's brooding and crazy intensity. There is no real competition, however, I was constantly wanting Emma to please please choose Jake over Will (if a better choice didn't come along) because Will is such a complete a**hole the entire time, that the main attraction I see for Emma is that he's sexy and a leader. Please, in the next book, find a SOLID resolution because the constant tantrums and flip-flopping has been done before and truly detracts from the strength of your protagonist! Let her be a strong character, no below-par romance is needed with her.
Overall, this is a solid second book to a decent series. Is it better than the first? No. Will it have me clamoring for the third? No. But I will give it the old college try when it's released.
