I ordered a copy of Kyle Lamb's new book: Green Eyes and Black Rifles last week. It showed up on my doorstep just in time for me to use it as my go to bed book.... Even after several hours of driving and two glasses of wine, I nearly read the whole book before drifting off. It was that engaging. This book is the most well put together data dump of current black rifle tactical shooting skills I have ever seen. I am highly impressed. Kyle Lamb, of Viking Tactics, has all of the credentials needed to write such an authoritative guide. What impresses me more is the acknowledgement he gives throughout the book to his former teammates for assisting him in laying it down on paper. I consider this a must have book for those who aspire to shoot black rifles tactically. My circle will be complete if another book on tactical pistol shooting happens to spring from Kyle and his buddies' minds into bound paper. Got Carbines? Buy This!

They're right.
Some have mentioned the lack of information where the AR15/M16 is concerned.
They're right, too.

On the first aspect, the author's a Soldier, not an English teacher. Something happened to his editor and his daughter had to take over the editing. Maybe he can get these grammar issues fixed for the next edition - maybe not. As it is, there is no confusion whatsoever about what Mr. Lamb is saying, so for me, the grammar isn't an issue.

On the second, there are many books out there that cover this weapon's history in detail. Doing so in this book wasn't necessary, and had Mr. Lamb attempted to do so in this book, it would have detracted from his work.

What Mr. Lamb DOES do, is share tips and techniques that he's learned over the years, and he does it well. He leads you through equipment selection, layout, and usage. He covers practically every malfunction that a carbine is likely to suffer, and he shows you simple and fast ways to clear them. He lists drills that you can do to improve your efficiency. One of the best tips he gives is how to do a proper 'press check' in the carbine.

Earlier reviewers have commented that Mr. Lamb does not write with a 'my way or the highway' attitude, and that his book is pure 'meat and potatoes' information. Those guys are 100% spot-on. No fluff, no filler, just what you need.

This isn't exactly an entry-level book. As he mentions up front, he assumes that the reader already is already familiar with the care and feeding of the AR15/M16. However, if you're just getting into the world of the carbine, he does give some good pointers on features and accessories that you may/may not want in your own weapon, so this book is still a good purchase for you.

I've dealt with ARs for over 20 years, taken classes, etc. and I can tell you that this book is one of the most solid purchases that I've made book-wise.

Bottom line: If you want to further your education in combat weaponcraft, buy this book.

No wasted space, just tons of great info

This is a great book about training, equipment and implementation of the weapons systems written from an operators perspective. It is geared towards the person with a good thorough understanding of the weapon systems and tactics. You don't need to be a Special Forces soldier or Navy SEAL to make use of this book, but you need a good grounding in the fundamentals to get maximum benefit from it.

This book is written by a retired Special Forces operator and much of the terminology will be familiar to those with a military background. While the armed citizen will find a ton of useful information in this book, it seems heavily slanted towards military style operations and all out gun fights. This may be more useful for the typical military or police user but the amount of information means anyone who may go into harms way will find parts useful.

I don't want to sound as if there are prerequisites for this book, I think that anyone who picks it up will find a lot of useful information. There are tons of tips and trick to be picked up. The information isn't presents in a 'my way or the highway manner' but from the perspective of 'here are some things that work for me'. This manner of presenting data appeals very much to me because there are always more than one way to do something. One way isn't always going to be the best way and many people have systems that work. There is a great deal of data in the book and it is well worth the price of entry.

Priceless piece of work

It's important to realize that Kyle's book is a tribute to the operators that first nurtured him in his early years, several of who very sadly lost their lives in Mogadishu. Kyle lived the book's content for over 20 years. He developed many of the techniques on his own and refined many others, and not necessarily from simple flat range static shooting or competition matches but rather while the distinctive crack of the enemies' round s passed by his head - when needed feedback was immediate. And, as Frogman said in his review, Kyle incorporated the knowledge and experience of his fellow operators learned throughout those two decades and practiced successfully in some of the most inhospitable places on earth. Even so, in a world class organization that prioritizes accurate rifle and pistol shooting above all else - and like no one else - Kyle truly has few peers. Even those of us who have had the honor of Kyle's presence and experiencing his warrior psyche first hand reference this book constantly, as do the very busy current operators that still go to work in the war on terror daily. If you carry a carbine at work or play, you need to have this book in your carry-on luggage. Hopefully, Kyle will follow this blockbuster with a sequel on the combat pistol.

it was wonderfully written and includes wise advice for all ages

Here is a fascinating read, following the journey of a couple that overcame a trauma in their marriage, detailing their heartaches of growing apart and a betrayal. Faced with the choices of divorce or trying to work on their issues, this couple chose to overcome their problems. I couldn't wait to read the entire book, it was wonderfully written and includes wise advice for all ages. All couples can benefit their relationship by a thoughtful reading.

Excellent, excellent excellent book!!! This one was a classic!

Stacey Greene whoever you are. You rock woman! I feel like meeting you personally to shake your hand. This book should be placed as the healing Bible of all marriages. Every component that you laid out here rings so true of what a lot of marriages are going through. Last report I found showed that 55% of all first marriages fail and 75% of all second marriages fail. But what your book teaches is there is no marriage that doesn't go untested. Marriage is nothing more than a roller coaster filled with sex, misunderstandings, struggles, joys, tears, pain, excitement, support, loneliness, despair, exhileration, heartbreak, unity and the hopeful conclusion that you can't get through it successfully without getting on your knees and telling the Lord that you can't do it alone and need His help.
The Lord never promises easy in life. But what He DOES promise is that you'll get through it, through His help, provided that you just humble yourself and ask for his grace and support. I think the problem is that most people choose to not acknowledge the Lord and feel divorce as the only way out through their problems which is why they fail again in their second marriage and beyond.
Well this book here sets the record straight on what a marriage should contain for anyone serious on strengthening their marriage and staying married. Also for singles, it educates them as well as to how to prepare for marriage with the clear indication that it's not going to be rosy and sweet as in the movies, but hard work and challenges that will eventually disappear when you have the Most High Heavenly Father by your side.
How do I know? I'm married.
Again, great job Stacey. This book was excellent! Continue the good work and much success in your marriage (if you are). You really know your stuff and the way you put the verses in here were so eloquently done. It's the best marriage book I've ever read that speaks TRUTH which is what we all need to hear. Peace and love.

Vulnerability vs strength

The first thing I look at when reading a book is, is there conflict and does the protagonist has flaws. Yes, the protagonist has flaws, but I had trouble filtering out the antagonist at first. Sometimes we are our own antagonist. Now the author really showed how vulnerable Michelle was throughout the book. In fact, it was pointed out to the point that I stopped reading, because she could not get over the affair. But I ventured back because I had to find out if she became strong. But then I realized, she was exuded strength the moment she decided to fight for her marriage. I don't know if I could have done what she did. I believe I would have stopped fighting like Jimmy. She did not allow the affair to break her. What I like about the book, is that she realize at the end that she had strength to trust and forgive. I like when I can put myself in the narrative and relate to story. I've never experienced what the author been through. I always believed women who stayed were weak. Now I realize it takes strength to stay. She has to see this man everyday and say to herself, "This never happened." That is true forgiveness. That takes strength. I am glad I returned two the book. Now I can look at my marriage with new eyes.

Wish I had this book when I was a teen

This in a great book for anyone at any age. It is designed for teens who are just getting started on their own life, dreams and desires. The rules of life given in this book apply to all of us. I figured out most of the rules on my own but it would have been helpful to have this when I was younger.

Excellent book if you want to start a pet food business. However, for an average dog owner that wants to make their own food as suggested by a vet, this is just over whelming. Way too complicated.
On the other hand It is a terrific reference book but I think the writer is, hum how should I put this, a touch anal about it! Or OCD. Or both. To suggest that I should follow this book 100% or do not bother at all and instead buy retail dog food is a little much! Really.
But for some perhaps this book is just what they want. It just was not for me. However, as I said it is an excellent reference book and I am glad I have it so that's why I rated it 4 star.

Hannis Arc, working on the tapestry of lines linking constellations of elements that constituted the language of Creation recorded on the ancient Cerulean scroll spread out among the clutter on his desk, was not surprised to see the seven etherial forms billow into the room like acrid smoke driven on a breath of bitter breeze. Like an otherworldly collection of spectral shapes seemingly carried on random eddies of air, they wandered in a loose clutch among the still and silent mounted bears and beasts rising up on their stands, the small forest of stone pedestals holding massive books of recorded prophecy, and the evenly spaced display cases of oddities, their glass reflecting the firelight from the massive hearth at the side of the room.

Since the seven rarely used doors, the shutters on the windows down on the ground level several stories below stood open as a fearless show of invitation. Though they frequently chose to use windows, they didn't actually need the windows any more than they needed the doors. They could seep through any opening, any crack, like vapor rising in the early morning from the stretches of stagnant water that lay in dark swaths through the peat barrens.

The open shutters were meant to be a declaration for all to see, including the seven, that Hannis Arc feared nothing.

Extremely Disappointed

First off, I am (was?) a huge SoT fan and like most everyone else, enjoyed the earlier books and tolerated the last few. I just finished The Omen Machine and quite frankly, I think I'm done with Richard and Kahlan (and TG as well). Don't get me wrong, I loved these characters early on, but with every installment, they get weaker and more one dimensional.

But even so, this one surprised me. A couple of the reviews already posted hit it on the head. ALL the characters are mere shadows of what they used to be. The dialogue is very weak, stunted and repetitive, and absolutely nothing exciting happens in the whole book. Seriously, not one thing.

What happened to the awesome power of Richard Rahl, when in a rage looses his power to blast through massive doors, blowing them from the hinges and reducing them to splinters skittering across the floor? What happened to 'calling the target' and 'dancing with death'? Now Richard just steps aside, "raking his fingers through his hair", wondering what to do. In this book, Richard's power and presence as a War Wizard and The Seeker of Truth is gone, and he comes off as just a guy with a cool sword.

The rest of the characters come across the same. Bewildered and ineffectual. It's a shame because there used to be so much depth to these individuals, but in this book they are just taking up space. They're just not the awesome characters we've come to love from 'Stone of Tears', 'Blood of The Fold' and 'Faith of the Fallen'. Those books are among the best Richard and Kahlan novels. I'm afraid this one falls far short.

Goodkind Fails to Engage

As a strong fan of the Fantasy Genre, and an avid supporter of the Sword of Truth series, I found this book vastly disappointing. There are a great number of reasons not to read this book. A few of such are as follows-

1 - The Circus of Stupidity
The whole short book comes off as a carnival show meant to display how everyone in the whole world who isn't Richard's close friend is an absolute moron. Every character that they encounter is viciously, unforgivably unintelligent. But it doesn't stop there; even the characters that we have grown to love (Nathan, Zedd, etc) have lost their edge, wit, and depth. These characters have suddenly lost the ability to grasp complicated concepts, and it is just sad.

2 - The Televised Evangelist
I am among the few who actually enjoyed some of the heavy preaching in the SoT series, but this book takes it over the top with endless snippets of proselytism that somehow completely lack the substance to actually engage, amuse, or teach anything at all. It is as Terry Goodkind is trying to hammer us over the head with his philosophy, but doesn't seem to have the time or inclination to follow his preaching through to conclusion. It only serves to cause frustration.

3 - The Ink is Fading
The text of this book has no impact. It has none of Terry Goodkind's usual depth or tension, and feels as if it had been written by someone completely different. It doesn't pack a punch. There is no spark. The writing is repetitive. The dialogue is boring. The words fall flat. No matter how much I tried, I just couldn't get myself to care about anything that happened.

TG doesn't have the story anymore. He's just filling pages with tired rhetoric playing off the fact we all used to love his characters.... hell I still love his characters and wish he would go ahead and write a book about them. You know.. the witty ones that invoked reactions from me while I read the the books.. the ones that made my eyes water and my chest heave, the ones that made me literally throw back my head and laugh. The ommmminous knowledge of a mord-sith and that if there are magics like that in this world WHAT ELSE WILL MR GOODKING HAVE IN STORE FOR US! or OMG the mud people, I laughed so hard when Richard slugged one of them. Just so many great memories from the series.

Apparently he has crap in store for us though. I used to be a really big fan, I've recommended and got numerous friends to start/buy this series.. Then I read the last 3 books, and was terribly underwhelmed. But hey, I finished the series, I was mostly content, and had every intention of reading any book Mr. Goodkind put out. I'd enjoyed huge swaths of the SoT series and felt prepared to give him a chance in any universe. Seems fair? I thought so.

Anyway, one of the 5 star reviews hit it on the head. It's like TG has turned this into Harry Potter. Lamest War Wizard EVER. Richard never does anything even moderately interesting with his almighty powers. I don't want to read Harry Potter or anything remotely like it, I don't want things spelled out for me to the point a moderately intelligent 6 year old could puzzle it out..

AND SOME WIT? Can we have some wit? ...

I'd still recommend you checkout the series, the first half of it is amazing (And Faith of the Fallen was a real gem)... but I wouldn't bother reading anything after Chainfire. All it does is make me angry.
